The Leader of the Pack

I'm a pack leader... want to be. At home, school and situations that cause me anxiety. So, here is to a new year/new me. I'll be projecting a calm, assertive energy. *No, I'm not going Buda on ya. I'll be looking to God to pour out His Holy Spirit on me daily, moment to moment.

I've become a Cesar Millan fan for good reason as we have a Bella and Bearen in our family now. We are going to scoop them up and take them along with us to Colorado Springs over Christmas. Here is the crazy part...we sold our mini van and have a 2008 Honda Civic.

Needless to say I'll be bringing God's Word along with us! Sounds like a fun family trip, right?!

I Got My Girl

After much thought and prayer Kent and I decided to say "yes" to a new addition to our family. We ended up getting a little girl, dog! All it really took was Kent saying that it would be nice to have a lap dog. My mom has three Jack Russell Terriers and has been looking for a male to have a litter of puppies with. She had no such luck. So, we ended up rescuing a 9 month old Chihuahua. She is precious. "Say hello, Bella!"

Watch your Words

We've been working on grammar; trying to leave out the period can be fun. But this is what I really want to remember about the lesson...

*Give without remembering; take without forgetting.

Use a semicolon in place of a period to separate two sentences where the conjunction has been left out.

I'm Fixin

What did you do this summer? Did you go anywhere? Did you visit anyone? Well, if you have opened my Smileboxes you've seen what I've been up to. But what I have not been doing is what's getting me irritated.

We are blessed to have a extra office/guest bedroom in our home but its become a place for paperwork, books, pictures, boy's drawings, rental house files, Air Guard schooling and important documents. So, I'm fixin to move all the ***** out of the room to a much more visited room in the house. Then I will be forced to deal with the stacks of items that were too important to throw away in the first place! I'm fixin to deal with the mess! This picture is of someone else's office/guest bedroom. It will help me see what my room will look like if it does not get fixed!

Get Off Me!

Skeptics say it's impossible to lose weight by swimming. That's just great. The one aerobic activity that people who are overweight could actually benefit from without putting their bodies in more pain is known to not allow you to take the pounds off.
What the heck. I say those skeptics have not ever been swimming. They have not kicked their legs so hard that the exhale bubble sound can't be heard. They have not made it to the other end of the pool just to push off again.
I choose to believe that I can get away from weight and am kicking and sticking my head under. I swing my arms cutting through the water. Yelling to my head hunger back off, you've never been my friend. Weight I'm done with you. I'm done running, trying to lose you. I'm swimming away and looking to find ME underneath YOU.

I'm Surrounded by Weeds!

I have weeds all over the place! They can be a bother to others and cause head aches, mood swings and numbness of the brain. I received them with open arms and knew they were going to be trouble but trusted the giver to assist me in adapting to them. To this day I love my weeds. One in particular has really sprouted up lately. He has lots of time with his two big brothers and moved to a new development level. I guess I've been keeping him watered and given him lots of sunshine!

Don't Say Never to Netherland

The van was locked and loaded with the Niebuhr’s and Gordon’s ready to discover the American-Dutch corner of the world. We were heading north on a mission toward Dutch pastries and a culture that was sure to be present in full force.

While visiting, the Niebuhr boys (Kent included) would get to haul buckets of water and pour them on the streets. This would clean and make way for the Tulip Queen and her Royal Court.

Cousin Marissa would be in the parade participating in Dutch games (Kinderspelen), street scrubbing and float riding.
Cousin Maren would scrub the street while Uncle Craig doused the street with buckets of water.
Uncle Craig would also carry a province flag and ride an authentic big wheel bike in the parade. They performed in stunning Dutch costumes representing Old World Holland.
There were carnival rides, old-fashioned games, Dutch bakeries, horse-drawn trolley rides, windmills and beautiful tulips!

What a welcome (welkom) we received from our Beaty family, nestled in their unique home of Orange City, Iowa.

Dinner Table

Will is full. He tips his chair back and plays with his fork. He burps, giggles and cracks a new knock, knock joke. It was not his favorite homemade meal lasagna that filled him with joy, peace and love. It was the body and blood of Christ.

"Lord's Supper" (Coena Domini), "Table of the Lord" (Mensa Domini), "Lord's Body" (Corpus Domini), and the "Holy of Holies" (Sanctissimum). In the early days of Christianity, it was referred to as a "Love Feast", or an agape meal.

Here is Will after Mass displaying his banner that Gram helped him make. Just look at the Elvis grin...we asked him what he wanted as a gift for his First Eucharist and he said, "I just want to be close to God." Well, Will I think you received your gift!
